Supportive Housing
In 2006, EDEN added an expansive level to its programming when it became involved in the development, ownership, provision, and management of Supportive Housing. Cuyahoga County's Supportive Housing Initiative—consisting of Sisters of Charity Foundation, FrontLine Service, Enterprise Community Partners, the Cuyahoga County Office of Homeless Services, CHN Housing Partners, and EDEN—were among the first homeless coalitions to embrace the supportive housing model … a revolutionary approach to combating chronic homelessness.
All of our activities operate around the premise that only when people have safe, secure homes can they focus on resolving issues and progressing toward life goals. Before addressing any other issues, EDEN allows people experiencing long term homelessness to find a safe, secure place to call home. Supportive services are client-driven and tailored to the needs of each resident. More than 95% of residents opt to participate in an array of on-site supportive services.
Our 13 supportive housing buildings preserve historic landmarks, transform neglected properties, and introduce new resources and opportunities to surrounding communities. The buildings provide a safe, stable, supportive living environment to 850 formerly chronically homeless individuals.
Through this initiative, EDEN and its supportive housing partners have been able to reduce chronic homelessness in Cuyahoga County significantly, and less than 5% of participants return to homelessness.
